Pump Monitoring & Consultancy

About Us

Company Background

Technical Application Software (TAS) was formed in Johannesburg, South Africa in1991 to develop engineering software for the pump industry. Its pump-analytical software is used by many of the leading pump manufacturers worldwide and it is recognised as a leader in this field.

TAS has provided software to integrate clear water test facilities, generate pump performance curves and correctly size and select pumps. Customers include CH Warman Pump Group, Girdlestone, Godwin Pumps, Goulds Pumps, Hazelton Pumps, Howden, KSB Pumps, Orbit, and many others.

These products provided TAS with a base of knowledge and stable software, revised in the light of experience, from which the TAS PUMPMONITOR has been built.

TAS PUMPMONITOR uses the latest communications options to provide the pump user with accurate information in real time on the performance of his pumps, delivered via Internet to his chosen location. This enables immediate action to be taken, when required, to reduce wastage in terms of energy, maintenance and production down-time.

TAS ONLINE is the sole distributor of TAS PUMPMONITOR

Directors

Harry Rosen (B Sc Mech Eng, Pr Eng) (Managing Director) is the founder of TAS, whose expertise has been developed over 20 years in the pump industry. Harry is past chairman of the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering, Central Branch Region, which includes the industrial heartland of South Africa. He has been appointed as the National Expert on the pumping systems component of the National Industrial Energy Efficiency Project, a joint collaboration between the SA Departments of Trade & Industry (dti) and Energy (DoE), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). Harry has had a number of papers and news articles published in international and South African pump and engineering journals.

John Schulkins (BA) (Business Development Manager) has 30 years experience in corporate IT and business analysis, technical marketing and company management.

Greg Adcock (B Sc Mech Eng) (Senior Engineer) has 13 years experience in commissioning and customer support of heavy plant, more recently concentrating on pumps. He heads the TAS PUMPMONITOR implementation team.

Status

TAS PUMPMONITOR is currently in varying stages of implementation in South Africa with several major mining houses (Gold Fields, AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold, Anglo Platinum, Anglo Coal, De Beers) in both dewatering and process applications and is also attracting interest from other large pump users e.g. Sasol (petrochemical), and bulk water utilities.

Our extensive trials and pilot installations have been sufficiently impressive to convince the major Corporates mentioned above to invest significant capital in installing the PumpMonitor.

The first live data is now being received and analysed, showing potential for major operational cost savings. Case studies based on this data will be published on this site in the near future.

Business Opportunity and Vision

TAS ONLINE (Pty) Ltd is mindful of the fact that innovative solutions in pump management have, in the past, ‘escaped’ prematurely into the market before they are tried and tested. Accordingly, we have not attempted to publicise PumpMonitor too widely until these initial installations have yielded the expected life cycle cost savings. Full case studies can then be provided to support our pilot study results.

Despite this cautious approach, we are now far enough advanced to open initial discussions with potential customers and qualified distribution partners in major markets overseas who may be interested in working with us in the future.

Our preferred business model would be to act as a centre of expertise in pump efficiency, to undertake generic marketing in order to educate the market and stimulate demand and to concentrate on development of PumpMonitor and to extend it into other major plant items e.g. refrigeration and ventilation plants, compressors, mills, cyclones etc.

We will continue to provide our customers with accurate, timeous information on the performance of their equipment and a professional consulting service.
